Unleash your primal energies and learn to move your hips a million ways as Melina of Daughters of Rhea shares her family’s ancient belly dance secrets with you. Melina’s precise and poetic instruction uses somatic story-telling, chakra imagery, rhythm-response and principles of Ancient Greek dance to teach wild shimmies, snake-like undulations, graceful hands and arms and body isolations. Melina’s style of belly dance dance, formed as a child in circus rings and at the shimmering hip of her mother in the shadow of the acropolis in Athens, Greece is globally informed, Greco-Turkish, proto-Tribal, modern Bohemian fusion. Melina lights up the stage with her unique manouche (circus gypsy) flair, and she is known for her creative use of props: from balancing swords on daggers gripped in her teeth to dancing with trays of burning candles on her head to spinning upside down in the air while hanging by a foot, not even she knows what she’ll come up with next. Stay tuned... Daughters of Rhea: An international, multi-generational, family life of dance extravaganza! Oriental dance pioneer Rhea of Greece and her multi-talented daughters Melina and Piper (www.pipermethod.com) fire up stages and pack seminars worldwide. From the tavernas of the ancient city of Athens, Greece to the Baltimore Museum of Art stage to the European circus ring, The Daughters of Rhea inspire you to be the best dancer you can be, and back it up with a firm emphasis on technique.
