Abstract: Recent releases of Linux distributions have moved to model of supporting a wide range of hardware platforms and uses (desktop, lightweight and workgroup servers, and traditional big iron) all using the same code. One of the advantages of is that enhancements targeted at desktops can be used on servers and enhancements targeted at high end servers can be used on desktops. We will look at some of the recent enhancements in several open source projects, and how they can be utilized on both Linux desktops and servers.
